Description - Our Premium Home Dance Subfloor is the perfect sprung subfloor for your Marley dance flooring needs. This two-part system comes with our cushioned home dance subfloor tiles as well as durable and firm athletic plastic tiles for a sturdy surface finish. This system simply interlocks together within each layer, requiring no messy glue. You can easily install, uninstall, and move this layered dance subfloor anywhere. Dance subfloors provide cushion underfoot to reduce the risk of injury, in addition to a sturdy foundation that is firm but not too hard. This professional option is great for use in the home or traveling studio and can be used with ballet dance styles (including pointe), jazz, modern, and tap (with VersaStep). Our Premium Home Dance Subfloor is perfect for any skill level of dancer, providing the shock-absorbing and durable floor that is needed. Marley sold separately.
Material – High-density closed cell EVA foam with durable hard polypropylene tiles.
Thickness – Home Dance Subfloor Tiles is ~3/8" and our hard plastic tile is 3/8". Overall thickness is ~3/4".
Shoe Style – All shoe styles, hard or soft
NOTE: The kit contains enough hard plastic tiles to allow for over coverage of the foam subfloor when installed. You may install with the overage or keep the extra hard plastic tiles for other use. Please see detailed installation sizing per kit below:

Recommended Uses – Our Premium Home Dance Subfloor is perfect for practicing a variety of dance styles in the home, as well as for use with traveling dance companies. Styles include ballet, advanced ballet pointe, jazz, modern, and tap (when used with our VersaStep dance rolls).

When installing your dance subfloor, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Clean your main subfloor so that it is free of all dust, dirt, and debris.
  2. Install the subfloor tiles by interlocking them together to form a rectangle where you can place your Marley dance floor.
  3. Install the plastic tiles directly on top of the foam tiles, using no additional adhesive or tape to keep them in place. Starting in one corner, place the tiles and interlock them into one another with the loop sides of the tiles facing out. You can gently step on the tiles to lock them in place.
  4. To keep your Marley dance roll in place, allow for a 1" gap between the edge of the plastic tile and your dance flooring roll. Tape down the perimeter of your dance floor roll directly to the plastic subfloor tiles using Mat Tape. This will create a flat surface and you will be able to see the edges of your subfloor tiles.
  5. If you would like to cut the loops off of the plastic tiles, you can use a plastic tile cutter.
  6. If you’re planning a wall-to-wall installation, you must cut the tiles to fit your space, allowing for perimeter expansion and contraction. You can cut the tiles using a plastic tile cutter.
  7. For installations with multiple rolls, you may also tape together the seams where the rolls touch, ensuring a flat transition where the rolls meet.

The foam tiles portion does come with edging. The plastic tile portion will actually work with our Nitro Tile edging.
I would like to cut the tabs off of the top plastic portion of the subfloor. How can I do that?

You may cut the loops off using a plastic tile cutter. You may also purchase edging from our Nitro Tiles (they will work with the plastic tile portion and add a safe transition.
If we are putting this over carpet, do we need a subflooring? I am just concerned about the flooring being too squishy?

The dance subfloor will function best over a flat, solid surface. High pile, home carpet can cause the tiles to not lay flat and the interlocks to not sit flush. You can put plywood down between the carpet and dance subfloor for a solid surface.
Can this be put over a cement floor or do you need something in between both?

Will the kits be able to be pieced together to make a larger floor space? The goal is to make a space 10x9.
Our Premium Home Dance Subfloor Kit can be interlocked within the size options to create a larger size.

Typically no, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't happen. Depending on your exact floor finish there are a number of factors that may be important to watch. We recommend testing a small area of your floor first before committing to a large area to be safe.
Can I order a custom-sized Premium Home Dance Subfloor Kit?

If you want to create a custom Premium Home Dance Subfloor Kit, you can order the individual parts on their respective product pages. The hard plastic tiles can be ordered on the Tap Dance Tiles page, and the foam tiles can be ordered on the 3/8" Home Dance Subfloor Tiles page. Just enter the size you want to cover with both, and it will let you know the number of tiles needed to cover your space.
I dance disco/ hustle in 4-inch heels with fast, abrupt turns and spins. Will this floor be good for that?

Yes, you can dance disco, or the hustle using this subfloor kit. This subfloor kit features a hard surface on top, allowing you to turn easily.

The rubber/foam was super easy and fantastic. It was much more durable than I expected. Had I known, I might have just purchased that. The top tiles went together fairly easily as long as we weren't trying to fill in a piece. It was difficult to cut them to fit the room (as we wanted a removable floor but don't plan to move it repeatedly). We had to cut some on the edges to fit the exact measurements of the room and that was difficult or if the wall wasn't exactly square it was sometimes hard to get some to snap together but overall, she loves it. She now has a studio in her house again and feels like she can dance on it even though we haven't purchased the Marley to go on top yet.
