Gym Flooring

So you have an extra room, and you want to turn it to a gym, but you don’t know what type of flooring you need. At RubberFlooringInc we offer a wide range of gym flooring perfect for both residential and commercial applications. But the first question most customers have is “What is the best floor for my application?” The truth is, there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer, but don’t worry, we’re going to break it down and help you sort through the details to find your perfect gym floor!”

Rubber Tiles

Rubber Tiles
Rubber tiles are by far one of the most popular gym flooring options. You can choose between interlocking tiles, which look like puzzle pieces, or straight cut tiles, which look like squares in several thicknesses. You might be asking yourself, “How am I supposed to know what the thicknesses mean?” Great question! Let us break down each thickness to see what they are used for.

Thickness
  • 1/4” or 6mm – Made for basic home gyms and exercise rooms.
  • 8mm – Very durable rubber for commercial and home gyms.
  • 3/8” - Commonly found in commercial gyms such as Gold’s and LA Fitness, but great for home gyms as well.
  • 1/2” - Ultra durable rubber designed for extreme “use”.
  • 1” - For Olympic lifts, dropping of heavy barbells and residential playgrounds.

Installation
Interlocking tiles are by far the easiest to install. Essentially, your floor becomes a giant puzzle and it’s your job to put the pieces together. Interlocking tiles are great over flat subfloors such as concrete or plywood. Straight cut tiles can be installed in various ways. Some straight cut tiles can be installed with dowels (little pegs used to connect them together). This is similar to Ikea furniture. Others may require glue or double sided tape. Straight cut tiles are great over plush carpet or uneven surfaces. Whatever way you choose, your floor will look virtually seamless and very professional.

Rubber Rolls
Rubber rolls are great for easily covering large areas. Available in several thicknesses, all of our rubber rolls are 4' wide with many options that can be custom cut to your desired length. For lateral movement exercises such as P90X or Insanity, rubber rolls are preferred. Lateral movements can move interlocking tiles, which can create a trip hazard working out. And no one wants that. So now that you have chosen rolls for your gym, now you are wondering what thickness will work for you?
Thickness
  • 5mm – Great for high traffic areas, but not recommended for gyms.
  • 1/4” - Made for basic home gyms and exercise rooms.
  • 8mm – Durable rubber perfect for commercial and home gyms.
  • 3/8” - Commonly found in commercial gyms, but great for home gyms as well. Popular with cross fit.
  • 1/2” - Ultra durable rubber designed for extreme use. Popular with cross fit.

Types

Our Eco-flec, Impact and Black Regrind Rolls
These Rolls are less dense, making them a great choice for high impact workouts. However, they are not ideal for areas where a lot of lateral movement such as Zumba, P90X, or Insanity will occur. Lateral movements can cause the floor to degrade where the exercises are performed, which is not safe for anyone using the floor. Similarly, we do not recommend using heavy on these rolls. They are more fragile and may rip when equipment is moved.
Standard Rubber Rolls
Standard rubber rolls are great for anything from high traffic areas to cross fit gyms. These rolls are build to handle years of abuse from the toughest environments. These rolls can handle the toughest of environments and last for many years to extreme abuse. Rolls that fall under this category are 5mm Rubber Rolls, Tough Rubber Rolls, Strong Rubber Rolls, Heavy Duty Rubber Rolls, Mega Rubber Rolls and Confetti Regrind Rolls.
Impact Series Rolls & Tiles
Our Impact series rolls (and tiles) are unique in that they feature rubber underlay attached to either a rubber floor or vinyl floor. So what does that mean for you? It means these are the cream of the crop - the most durable rubber flooring we offer, and you can enjoy them in any environment.
Rubber Mats
Rubber mats are typically used as temporary flooring surfaces in both commercial and residential spaces. Our mats come in several different sizes and thicknesses. They are great for anything from yoga to cross fit. You will often see rubber mats in commercial gyms, and particularly in cross fit gyms. So what mat is the best mat for me, you ask? Well, let’s go through the different types we offer.

Tiles By Use
Eco-Soft Tiles, Premium Soft Wood Tiles, ⅝” Diamond Soft Tiles, and Eco-Soft Carpet Tiles are all great for low impact exercises and under stationary equipment. These tiles do not hold up well to the traffic and abuse in commercial environments.

1”MMA Mats, Tatami Tiles, and ⅞” Jumbo Soft Tiles are the number one flooring option in martial arts and MMA studios. These tiles are very shock absorbent and feature several surfaces that aid in slip resistance.

3/4” Soft Rubber, HD Soft Tiles and Premium HD Soft Tiles are our most durable soft tiles. These tiles feature a high density foam that allows them to withstand more abuse. These tiles can be used in both home and commercial gyms in areas where they will get light to medium traffic. They are also great under stationary equipment.

One drawback to soft flooring is that it can be indented by heavy objects. Because of this, these floors typically don’t last as long. Use of furniture sliders is recommended to prevent denting and keeping your floors looking like new!

Carpet Topped Mats

Vinyl Topped Mats
Our vinyl topped mats do not harbor any bacteria, mold or mildew, making them great for wrestling. Easy to clean and sanitize, these are the preferred mat for this training style. Vinyl topped mats are also very durable and provide wrestlers with tons of shock absorbency.

Vinyl Wrapped Mats
Our vinyl wrapped mats are very durable and shock absorbent - great for both gymnastics and wrestling. These mats are great for home use and can be moved and stored easily. Since these mats are constructed with vinyl, they are also very sanitary and easy to clean.
