Made from super-durable, shock-absorbent recycled rubber, these mats are designed to withstand even the heaviest of free-weight lifters who occasionally drop their weights. Plus, they're heavy enough to stay put, but not so heavy that you can't take them with you on the go. Want a permanent gym flooring solution? No problem! Just butt them together and use double-sided carpet tape to keep them in place. With our Extreme Mats, you'll be the superhero of your home gym. Use them indoors, use them outdoors - they're tough enough to handle anything you throw at them. And with our guarantee, you can trust that they'll be your workout partner for many years to come.

Rubber Extreme Mats can be easily cleaned in two ways. Maintenance for these rubber gym mats typically includes:
  • Vacuuming any loose crumbs, dust, or debris from the rubber mat surface when necessary.
  • Occasional damp mopping of the exercise mats with a mild soap and water solution. A few recommended soaps are Dawn dish detergent or Tide laundry detergent.
Note: Do not use any solvent or oil style cleaners such as Pinesol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40, paint thinner, etc. since these types of cleaners will break down the flooring over time.

Installation of our rubber mats is very simple and usually done by the consumer. The typical installation of these mats is as follows:
  1. First, you will want to assume that the walls that the mats are abutting are not perfectly straight or square. Begin by determining the absolute center of the area to be installed. You will then determine the horizontal and vertical centers and snap chalk lines. This will become your starting point.
  2. Now, place the first mat in the joint of the two chalk lines.
  3. You will place the next mat at one end of the original mat.
  4. Note: When butting one mat up to the next, adjacent to or end-to-end, overlap the joints by about ¼”.Then “walk” or “work” the joint back with your hands, to eliminate the overlap. This will help ensure as tight a joint as possible.

  5. Continue this method to the wall or stopping point. Resume laying the floor on the opposite side of the original mat and continue installation to the wall or your stopping point. If the rubber exceeds the floor space, use our Adjustable T-Square or any straight edge and Utility Knife to cut to fit.
  6. Begin laying the next row at one end of the room, adjacent to the first row. Fine-tune the placement with a 2x4 and a rubber mallet. To achieve the recommended “brick” laying pattern, it may be necessary to cut the first and last mats.
  7. Note: Outdoor installations may require complete adhesion for maximum floor strength. You would follow the same install instructions as above but would incorporate the use of our Polyurethane Adhesive or our EZ Polyurethane Adhesive and Seam Sealer.

When installing our rubber mats, an adhesive isn’t usually needed since the weight of the product is enough to keep the mats from moving. However, if you do experience movement, you can use some double-sided tape or one of our Adhesives to prevent any movement.

Can these mats be easily cut?
Kathy
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be cut with a sharp utility knife. These mats are thick, so several cuts may be necessary.
I want to use it in my kitchen when I work out bc I live on a 2nd floor apt house. Does this move or is it heavy & stays in place? I had once bought it from elsewhere & that thing was supe light and slippery.
Adi
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats would work perfectly as a workout mat on a second floor and are very heavy and would not move around. These mats are 96 pounds apiece.
Will the mats start to sink if heavy equipment is placed on them?
LT
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats will not indent from heavy equipment being placed on them.
Do these mats have an odor? Looking to use as flooring on new cargo van and don't want strong odors ruin the ride.
Anonymous
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats do have a smell to them. To help abate this, we recommend cleaning the mat with a mild soap and water solution and letting the mat air dry. You may have to do this a few times to get rid of the rubber smell.
What is the heaviest amount of weight that can be dropped on these mats without damaging the floor below? I would be putting them on top of a solid slab of concrete.
Kiel Higgins
We haven't tested out what the maximum weight that could be dropped on our 4' x 6' Extreme Mats, but we can assure that you can drop pretty much any weight dumbbell or kettlebell on our mats and it would not damage the floor underneath doing normal exercises. These rubber mats are our most popular mats for Cross Fit gyms, so if it works well for them with all of the weighted activities they do, then these mats will be perfect for any install anywhere.
Do your mats have VOC's in them?
Dan
Our 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats were designed to be used outdoors, so they have a very high VOC count.
Regarding transferring color to other surfaces- I plan on using this as a workout mat on beige-color carpet. Will the black rubber cause discoloration to the carpet as I jump on it?
Anonymous
There is no guarantee that our 3/4" Extreme Mats will or will not stain your light colored carpet, but there is always that potential. To prevent this, we recommend placing a plastic sheet between the mat and the carpet to keep the mat from potentially staining the carpet.
Can you use this 3/4" Extreme Mat in food service operation (restaurants, cafes, etc.)? And, if not, why not?
RB
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used in a commercial restaurant environment. These mats when wet are very slip resistant and are very easy to clean. Just mop, hose or sweep the mats and let them air dry and they will look like new. Also, if dirt and grime get under the mat, you can easily lift it up and clean the area under the mat. These mats are mold and mildew resistant.
When using this type of mat to squat, will the mat give from the weight, or does it remain firm thereby providing a stable surface to safely squat? Can you park a car on top of this mat when used in a gym garage?
Dwayne Heard
Our 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats are very dense and would not depress when doing a squat or any other exercise on them. You can park a car over these rubber mats without it affecting the mats at all. The only thing that will affect these rubber mats is oil from your car. If oil were to fall on these mats, over time, the mats can start to flake due to the oil breaking down the binder in the flooring. If your car does leak, we recommend placing one of our Nitro Rolls or an AutoFloorGuard Containment Mat in the area where you park your vehicle.
Can I use this to put my outdoor trash cans on and will it stand up to? different weather?
Anonymous
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be placed under outdoor trash cans and will withstand the elements. The only issue you will run into is some fading when in direct sunlight.
Could these be used in horse stalls?
Anonymous
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used in horse stalls as these are the typical mats used in horse stalls. These mats are easy to install, clean, and maintain and will provide ample comfort for your horse.
Are these mats absorbent enough to do cardio on, being placed directly over hard tiles?
Dave
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are very shock absorbent and would work perfectly as flooring for doing cardio on over hard tiles.
Do these mats transfer black rubber onto hands and clothes like basic stall mats?
Anonymous
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can transfer color to light colored surfaces and your hands when handled.
Is any prep required to lay these mats down on my garage floor? I wanted to create a 12' square.
todd
The only prep you will need to do before installing our Extreme Mats is to make sure the subfloor is clean and free of any large dirt or debris. You will also want to make sure your subfloor is flat as well, so if you do have any major divots or pits, you may want to fill them before installing the mats.
When you roll up the 3/4" rubber mat -- 4' x 6' -- how tall is that roll? Thinking about storage in a cabinet.
Michael
Our Extreme Mats are 4' tall when rolled up.
Are these mats porous? Or non-porous?
Mike
Our 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats are semi-porous. Any liquid that falls onto the mat, if not cleaned up right away, will eventually start to absorb into the mat. If there are any salts or other small particulates in the water, then these will get stuck in the pores in the mat. They will be practically impossible to remove. We do offer our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer that can be used to make your floor non-porous. This sealer is recommended in gyms and doggy daycares.
I want to use the mat in a home gym, and the floor underneath is finished hardwood. Will the mat damage the hardwood floor finish?
Our Extreme Mats will not damage hardwood flooring when placed over it, but if you are concerned that it might, we recommend placing a plastic sheet between the mat and the hardwood flooring. This will ensure that the rubber flooring won't stain the hardwood flooring.
What is the difference between your "3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats" and your "4' x 6' Premium Mats"? I want to just lay these in my garage for home exercise and moderate weight lifting.
Chris
There are a few differences between these two mats. First, the obvious difference is the thickness. Our Premium mats come in either an 8mm thickness or a 3/8" thickness. Our Premium Mats are vulcanized, which means they are non-porous, whereas our Extreme Mats are not. Our Extreme mats are not finished on the bottom and are not trued as well. This means, if you are installing these mats as a full floor, you will want to make sure that you install them in a brick pattern to minimize the imperfections of the flooring. Both are great for moderate weight lifting and will help protect your subfloor. Even though our Premium Mats are thinner, they are still just as durable or more durable due to the fact that they are vulcanized.
What advantage do the 3/4 inch (Extreme) have over the 1/2 inch (Mega)? In other words, what does that extra 1/4 inch of thickness get you?
Really there isn't an advantage of going with the 3/4" Extreme Mats over our 1/2" Mega Mats. They both have been designed for dropping heavy weights and are very shock absorbent. The only time we would highly suggest someone going with the 3/4" over the 1/2" is if they have plywood subfloor and if they are on a second floor. That extra bit of material helps to absorb more of the shock when dropping weight better, protecting your subfloor and also deadening more of the sound. If you have a concrete subfloor and are on the first floor, the 1/2" Mega Mats are plenty.
Do these meet emit harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde?
Sunny
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats do no off-gas any harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde. If you would like the MSDS for these mats, please feel free to reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, chat, or email.
I have a stackable washer and dryer on my 2nd floor. Will this reduce the noise and prevent the walking and vibration of my washers?
Bruce
Yes, it will. That being said, you may want to check out our Washer/Dryer Mats. These were designed specifically for that purpose.
Do you sell a rubber ramp transition for the 3/4" thick mats?
Mike
We don't have a transition for our 3/4" Extreme Mats. The thickest ramp we have is a 1/2" thick.
Could you use these mats as a patio? Put them on the grass and put table and chairs on them?
Jean
These mats are not UV stable and may fade over time from direct sunlight.
Does your 3/4" 4'x6' Extreme Mats contain toxic phthalates?
Anthony Thompson
Our Extreme Mats do not contain phthalates or any other hazardous materials. These mats are tested on a regular basis, and a copy of this testing can be had when you contact one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, chat, or email.
What is the durometer (shore) rating on this rubber mat?
Anonymous
The durometer or shore rating for our Extreme Mats is 60 for Black and all Colors and is 55 for the Natural color mat.
Can these be used in a horse stall? Thank you.
mary kate
Our Extreme Mats are horse stall mats, so they can be used in a horse stall and are the most common mat used. These mats are very durable and low cost making them great for this type of use. They are easy to clean and can be moved from stall to stall as need be.
Do these mats need to go over a solid floor or could they rest over a slatted surface?
Ali
Our Extreme Mats can go over a slatted surface or solid surface.
If I cover my garage floor with these mats, will they tolerate hot tires in the summer?
ALB
You can drive over our Extreme mats. These mats will not be affected by hot tires in the middle of summer. The only issue you may run into is if your car leaks oil. If that oil gets on the mats, over time, it can degrade the mat, meaning you will need to replace. If you do have this issue, we recommend placing our Nitro Rolls or one of the Auto Floor Guard mats in the area where you park your vehicle.
Can I use it as an underlayment under my carpet? I need something strong to remove the floor step noise and vibration from the upstairs floor?
shiva kavosi
You can use our Extreme Mats as an underlayment under carpet. These mats are very thick and are very shock absorbent helping to reduce noise transfer between floors.
Are these mats exactly 48" x 72" ?
Our Extreme Mats are approx. 48" x 72". As they are not trued to size, there is potential for the mats to be a little larger or smaller than this size.
Can these mats be used in a walk-in freezer? They would have four-leg shelving units on them with heavy frozen food items.
Ben Lawson
Our Extreme Mats can be used as flooring in a walk-in freezer. These mats are very durable and will be able to withstand the weight of heavy shelving units. Since these mats are made from rubber, they are very slip resistant even when wet and are very easy to clean and maintain. They are also mold and mildew resistant and can be sealed to create a non-porous surface that can be easily sanitized.
Can this material be cleaned with bleach or other types of disinfectants?
You can clean our Extreme Mats with bleach and other disinfectants. When cleaning with bleach or other harsh chemicals, we recommend diluting the solvent as much as possible not to affect the flooring surface.
What is the suggested way to connect these mats to make a larger matted are?
Melissa
If you are wanting to connect several Extreme Mats together, you can use our seam sealer glue or double-sided tape.
What's the difference between this mat and the Shock Mat?
Sylvia
The main difference between our Extreme Mats and our Shock Mats is that the Shock Mats are a vulcanized rubber mat. If you are looking for a mat that is easy to clean, sanitize, and is super shock absorbent, then our Shock Mats are the mat for you. If you are looking to do high-impact workouts and are looking for a mat that can be stored easily, then we would recommend our Extreme Mats. Both are very durable and are great for a wide range of exercises.
How much do the 4'x6' extreme mats weigh?
Donna
Our Extreme Mats weigh approximately 96 pounds.
Will the 3/4" Extreme Mat reduce generator noise? Can the mat be ordered in smaller sizes?
Jack
Our Extreme Mats will reduce vibration noise created by a generator. It won't eliminate it, but it will reduce it. Currently, our Extreme Mats are only available in a 4' x 6' mat. If you would like to make the mat a smaller size, you definitely can. All you would need is a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. You will have to score the mat a few times to get through the mat, but it can be done quite easily.
I am looking to place 2 - 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats together to create an 8' x 12' area on top of medium pile builder-grade carpeting. Weight bench w/free weights & dumbells on top. Will this work, and what would you recommend to keep both mats close together?
Kurt
You can install our Extreme Mats over low pile commercial carpet with ease. If you like to connect these mats together, you can add some double-sided tape under the mats at the seam, or you can use mat tape on the surface of the mats at the seam, or you can use our Seam Sealer glue to connect them together.
Is a sealant needed at junction points?
You do not have to seal the seams when placing multiple 4' x 6' Extreme Mats together. You can, but it is not required. Typically people will use our seam sealer glue to create a water-tight surface or to help keep mats together.
Are these mats fire resistant?
david frederick
Our Extreme Mats are made from recycled rubber and have a Fire Class rating of 3, which is the lowest class. Essentially this means that if a fire were to occur that these mats will burn.
I’d like to use this on a brick patio or grass lawn to work out. Are there any disadvantages to doing that with this mat? How do you think it will perform in terms of sturdiness and comfort? Is it made in the USA?
Diane
Our Extreme Mats can be used outdoors on a patio or grass. They can be rolled up and moved to wherever you would like to use the. These mats are made of rubber and are very slip resistant and are more slip-resistant when wet. They are able to withstand the elements just fine and are resistant to mold and mildew growth. These mats are perfect for high impact workouts as they have a little give to them compared to some of our vulcanized mats. These mats are also very durable and sturdy and are made here in the USA.
What is the difference between Extreme Mats and Mega Mats?
The only difference between our Extreme Mats and our Mega Mats is the thickness. The Extreme Mats are 3/4" thick, whereas the Mega Mats are an 1/2" thick.
Will a basketball bounce on this? I want to set up a space for my toddler to play in our backyard. Thanks!
You can bounce a basketball on our 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats.
I am looking for a rubber mat that will hold a Power Tower Home Gym Strength Trainer. Dimensions are 55" width x 41" length x 83" height. Max weight for the Power Tower is 250 lbs, but I weigh only 140 lbs. The 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mat for $51 should work. Your thoughts, please.
Bri
Yes, our 4' x 6' Extreme Mats can hold a Power Tower Home Gym Strength Trainer.
I am looking for the best mat to put under my new Bowflex treadmill, on the carpet.
Lauren Pruitt
Our 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats are a great mat to use under a Bowflex treadmill. These mats are very durable and will be able to handle the weight of the treadmill with ease. These rubber mats will also help diffuse the sound transmission and vibration from the treadmill, helping to keep your space quieter.
Is the 3/4 thickness and durometer thick enough that when installed over a Roppe raised dot substrate, the dots from underneath won’t be felt through the mat?
ZD
The raised dots from Roppe's tile will not show or will be felt through our 4' x 6' Extreme Mats.
What would these mats be like to fall on, for grapplers, MMA, kickboxers, etc? Do they grip well with bare feet? I'm building an outdoor gym for use in lifting sports as well as combat sports.
David Kouvchinov
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats would not be recommended for grappling type exercises. If you would like to do those types of exercises and want products that can be used outdoors, we recommend checking out our large selection of Martial Arts flooring on our Martial Arts Flooring page.
Can these be used as a sound deadener in a car trunk?
Craig Wilkey
Our 4' x 6' Extreme Mats can be used as a sound deadener in a car trunk.
What type of rubber mats do you recommend for making a home gym which will primarily be used for powerlifting? And will rubber flooring protect ceramic tiles effectively?
Dr Abraham Perl
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are the perfect flooring option for any type of powerlifting, dead lifts, or Olympic lifts. These mats are very shock absorbent and will help to protect your subfloor whether it be another flooring surface like tile or a standard subfloor like concrete or plywood.
How much weight can these mats withstand?
Our Extreme Mats can have a car parked on them, so they are able to hold a lot of weight.
How big are the sample mats?
Shawn
The samples for our 4' x 6' Extreme Mats are around 4" x 4" in size.
How much does this mat weigh?
Amanda
One Extreme Mat weighs about 96 pounds.
Would this mat work for protecting concrete driveway from oils leaking from a vehicle?
We would not recommend using our 3/4" 4' x 6' Extreme Mats as a mat to protect your garage subfloor from leaking oil. Oil will actually cause the rubber mat to break down over time. If you would like a mat to protect your garage subfloor from oil stains, we recommend purchasing one of our Diamond Nitro Roll mats.
Do I need to put something under the mats to keep them from sticking to my Pergo flooring? There appears to be a fabric backing on the mats already?
Alexander J Kovacs
Nothing needs to be put between your Pergo flooring and our Extreme Mats. These rubber mats will not stick to the flooring. The backing of the mat just helps to add further friction so that the mat stays in place when in use. You can easily roll out and roll up our rubber mats as need be.
Making a jump platform can the extreme be glued on wood and does this mat absorb the impact of a jumper, if not what product do you suggest?
Troy Newton
You can glue our Extreme Mats to a wood platform with a polyurethane adhesive. Our Extreme Mats are very shock absorbant, with the Natural color being the most absorbant. For jump training, we would suggest going with our Natural colored mats, but any of our Extreme Mat colors can be used for this purpose.
Will this be good for my Nordic Track S221 Spin Bike, and does it have a cancer label warning on it?
Emily Vecchio
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are perfect under a Nordic Track S221 Spin Bike. Our rubber mats do not have a cancer label warning on them. These mats do not contain any cancer-causing materials.
Can I carry and roll up a 4' x 6' gym mat?
Karen G. Tinsley
Our Extreme Mats are pretty heavy and typically will take two people to roll up and carry. The weight of our 4' x 6' mat is approximately 96 pounds, and our 4' x 8' mat is approximately 128 pounds.
Are these mats mildew resistant? Is there ventilation underneath? I’m planning on installing these in a garage, and water may get on and under them.
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are mold and mildew resistant. These rubber mats are not vented, so there is no ventilation underneath the mats. Any water that pools under the mats will eventually evaporate. Depending on how often water pools under the mats, we may recommend pulling the mats up to allow the water to evaporate properly.
Can I get these 3/4" Extreme Mats in any different sizes other than the 4'x6'?
Yes, you can get our 3/4" Extreme Mats in other sizes than 4' x 6'. You can see the different size options on the product page.
Are these Extreme Mats, tiles, or one-piece rolled mat?
Ed
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are a one-piece mat and are not made from a collection of tiles.
I've used stall mats for my home gym, which leaves some area to breathe underneath the 3/4" mat by little circle risers. Due to the humidity and concrete sweating, how would these do with water pooling underneath? Can you also compare your product to the stall mats? Thanks.
Scott
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats would be the same as the stall mats that you have now. If you have any moisture coming up from your subfloor, there would be potential for water to pool under the mats. This won't affect the mats in any way, but you may notice when pulling up the mats that there may be a white film under the mats. This film is not toxic and is not mold; it is actually salt from the concrete that has collected and dried on the mat. This salt is very easy to clean off the mat with a mild soap and water solution.
What is the weight of the smallest mat, the 3' x 4'? I don't see it listed anywhere.
Amanda
Our 3' x 4' Extreme Mats weigh 48 lbs.
Are they water-resistant?
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are water-resistant.
Do you custom-size any of your mats? For example, the 4x8' mat is 2" short of the ideal size.
Cameron Gahres
We don't custom size our Extreme mats or any of our other mats, but we do offer a number of sizes. We would suggest going with a mat that offers a 10' sized mat and then to cut it down to the size that you need.
How do you link several mats together if you have a 8' x 24' space? I don't want to have uneven seams.
paul nealon
When installing these mats in a room, we recommend installing them in a brick pattern. The mats themselves do not interlock or link. You can use double-sided carpet tape or glue to adhere the mats to your subfloor, or you can use seam sealer glue to adhere the mats together.
Are the 2 sides of the stall mat smooth, or does one side have more texture and grooves? If they're both smooth, is there another product that does have this feature?
You will find a texture to the bottom of our Extreme Mats on the Natural and sometimes with our Black and Colored mats.
What are the differences between the 3/4" Extreme mats vs. the 3/4" Premium Extreme mats in black?
Jason Danieli
The main difference between our Extreme Mats and our Premium Extreme Mats is that our Premium Extreme Mats are vulcanized. This means that they are harder and more durable than our Extreme Mats. This does not mean our Extreme Mats aren't durable; it is just the main difference between the two. These mats were designed for different types of uses. For anyone looking to do high impact workouts, our Extreme Mats are the perfect mat for you. These mats are very shock absorbent and will help to cushion your joints while working out. If you want to drop super heavy weight, our Premium Extreme Mats is the mat for you. These mats are able to help protect your subfloor from the dropping of heavy weights.
We have a 16'x18' foot gym in our home. On the first floor w/ a concrete foundation. We like the size and thickness of the mat and want to know if it would be possible to fill the room with them as a floor. Is there another product with the same thickness that you would recommend in place of this product?
Wayne & Katy Rigler
You can use our 3/4" Extreme Mats as a full floor. When installing these rubber mats as a full floor, we recommend installing the mats in a brick pattern. Since the mats are not trued, some mats may be slightly larger or smaller. Installing them in this pattern will help to minimize any gnarly sightlines. You don't have to glue the mats down, but if you did want to adhere the mats, we recommend using either our Double Sided Carpet Tape or a polyurethane adhesive.
What is the Durometer?
Dan J Poirier
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are Shore A 60 +/- 5.
Are these mats strong enough to be used in a barn holding the weight of an 1800 lb dairy cow? We are searching for stall mats for our milking room in our barn.
Sarah
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats were designed to be used as agriculture mats and have been used in horse stalls, milking rooms, and the like for years before they became popular in gyms, Cross Fit to be specific. So, yes, these rubber mats will be able to withstand the weight of a cow and are perfect for this use. They are very easy to clean and maintain and are very slip-reisistant, even more so when wet. They also are resistant to mold and mildew growth and are anti-fungal.
Are these mats made of vulcanized rubber? Do they crumble and leave rubber pieces after some use?
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are not vulcanized. These mats do have the potential to crumble a bit, but it should not be excessive to the point where the mat is fully falling apart. If the mat is from standard use, please reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via email, phone, or chat, and they will be more than happy to assist you.
Will these hold up under the weight of a 700lb safe? Or will they smoosh? Thanks!
Steve Shimko
Our Extreme Mats can have a car parked on them, so they are able to hold thousands of lbs in weight.
What side should be up? Textured or smooth?
Michael
If your 3/4" Extreme Mat comes with both a smooth and textured size, the smooth side would be the top.
Can you put this over radiant floors? Will is gas?
Marie
You can use our 3/4" Extreme Mats over radiant flooring. Since rubber is an insulator to a certain extent, you may not get the full effects of your radiant floor system if you were to install these rubber mats over it. Our rubber flooring does off-gas when you get the flooring, but this off-gassing is not due to being installed over radiant heating. Any smells that you notice, you can knock out by mopping the rubber flooring with a mild soap and water solution with a synthetic mop head.
I'm planning to build a weightlifting platform with these mats on the top layer. Most people I've seen build these platforms use standard horse stall mats, but they are out of stock everywhere. How well will these extreme mats take and hold a screw into a layer of wood below? Thank you.
Jeff
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used as flooring over a platform. These mats are the same as all the other horse stall mats that are sold elsewhere. These mats can be screwed into the platform with ease.
Would this mat work well for decreasing vibration and noise if placed under a washing machine and dryer?
Ryan
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used as a vibration mat under a washer and dryer. These rubber mats are very thick and will reduce vibration and the dreaded 'washer walk'.
I have 3/4” mats in my garage and want to add more. The ones I currently have a smooth top layer. Are these mats smooth on the top?
JC
The surface of our 3/4" Extreme Mats are smooth.
Would this be good for a kid's playroom? Have hardwood and looking for easy clean up cushioning to add.
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used as flooring in a kid's playroom, but we wouldn't recommend using them. These mats do have a pretty strong rubber smell, as they were initially designed for outdoor use. Also, these mats are somewhat porous, so they can be a little hard to keep clean. For playrooms, we recommend using our Foam Tile flooring. These are non-porous and are very easy to clean. We have tiles from 1/2" to 1" thick.
Could this be used in a woodworking shop for comfort and sound insulation? Is it durable enough for this?
Dave Sandona
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used as flooring in a woodworking shop. These mats are very easy to install and easy to clean. Since these rubber mats are somewhat porous, we recommend sealing the floor with our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer. This will prevent any small wood pieces from getting trapped in the pores in the mat. These mats will add ample comfort underfoot and will provide some insulation. These mats were designed to be used in horse stalls, so they are plenty durable.
Would these mats serve as a good surface for an extra playground area for PreK students? We need an area where they can ride tricycles and play, thought these might be a great option.
Mike
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used as flooring in a playground for areas where kids will be riding trikes and general play. If any playground equipment were to be placed in this area, we would recommend going with one of our Playground Flooring options as these products have been formulated to provide optimal safety while at play.
I have carpet in my room with an indoor bike. Will this mat work well on the carpet while riding?
Joseph Matthew Feaster
You can easily place our 3/4" Extreme Mats on any carpet as an exercise bike mat without any issues. The only thing we will recommend is placing a plastic sheet over any light-colored carpet to prevent staining.
Could I get a longer one-piece mat as in 4' by 12'?
Chris Greening
The longest mat that we can offer in this thickness is 10' long.
Will this mat work for HIIT workouts?
Tara
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats have and can be used for HIIT workouts.
Can you roll these mats up when they are not in use?
John
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are pretty thick, but they can be rolled up when not in use. When you roll them up, you will need to bind them so that they stay rolled up when not in use.
Is the flooring squishy when you walk on it? I am trying to understand if you can use this as flooring in a squat rack where you will need to have good balance / not squishy flooring to be able to push off well. Is this more like standing on a hard surface than, say, a squishy yoga mat? Thanks
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are not squishy like a foam tile. These tiles are shock absorbent to protect your subfloor and provide some cushioning to your joints, but they are hard. Feel free to get a free sample of the mats to feel the hardness of our rubber mats.
Will this mat start to tear if we have a kickboxing bag on it?
Katherine
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats won't tear if you have a kickboxing bag on them. These rubber mats are made just like our other rubber flooring products and are dense. It would take a lot of force to tear these mats.
I consider using them as gym flooring and assume you don't recommend installing them directly over medium-pile carpet. Do you recommend putting a layer of plywood over the carpet first before installing them? What thickness plywood should we use? I'm not sure whether it's better to install a 3/4 inch plywood and then install a thinner rubber mat or use a thinner plywood and use a 3/4 inch mat?
Peter
You can install our 3/4" Extreme Mats over low pile carpet with ease. Over a high pile, thick padded carpet, we recommend placing 1/4" plywood boards over the carpet to prevent separation of the mats. If you are installing over a medium pile carpet with a thick pad, you will install the mats as you would over a high pile carpet over a thick pad. If the pad is not very thick, then you wouldn't have to use a plywood board.
Do these mats tend to shed pieces of rubber?
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats will not flake pieces of rubber. With all of our rubber products, you will see some rubber material that will flake off. This is just debris from the manufacturing process and doesn't mean that the flooring is breaking down. This material would just need to be swept or vacuumed up. If, for some reason, you did have excess flaking of your rubber flooring even after doing your initial cleaning, please reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, chat, or email so they can further troubleshoot the situation.
Will this work in the back of a pickup?
mcginnis shannon
You can install our 3/4" Extreme Mats in the bed of a pickup. If need be, you would just have to cut the mats to fit.
Are they waterproof? And will odor absorb into the product?
Jeff
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are not waterproof, but they are water-resistant. Our rubber mats, tiles, and rolls will not absorb odors. These rubber mats do have some small pores in them. These pores can get some organic material in them and cause the typical 'Gym Smell' that people are trying to avoid. To prevent this, we recommend sealing the mat with our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer. This will fill in those pores so you can prevent any organic material from getting in those pores and causing any odors.
Can you put these mats over existing thin interlocking mats? Do they need glue or double side tape to be set in place?
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be installed over any hard, flat surface, so you can install these mats over other floors with ease. These rubber mats don't need to be glued or taped to stay in place. The weight of the mats will help to keep the mats in place while in use. If for some reason, there were movement with certain exercises, we would then recommend using some double sided tape or glue.
Do these have the same raised circles on one side, as stall mats have, to provide air circulation?
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats do not have raised circles on the bottom of the mat. We do offer stall mats that do have circles or ribs on the bottom of the mat. You can find these mats on our Horse Stall Mat page.
Can this be used as a cushion under a swimming pool ladder?
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used under a swimming pool ladder. The mats are made of rubber which is very slip-resistant, even when wet.
Would these mats be suitable to put on an indoor pitching mound? I give lessons to high school & college kids daily. Thank you.
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used as an indoor pitching mound.
Will these mats take the repeated pounding of battle ropes?
Dale
You can use battle ropes on our 3/4" Extreme Mats. Due to how the Natural colored mats are made, we wouldn't recommend extended use on that color, but all other colors would hold up just fine.
I'm looking for a mat that will stay in place while doing high impact moves (jogging in place, jumping jacks, etc.). Is this mat heavy enough so it won't slide? Thank you.
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats are very shock absorbent and would work perfectly as flooring for doing cardio on over hard tiles.
I need a doormat that, when wet, won’t leak moisture to my interior wood floor. My dog sometimes pees on an indoor mat and damages my wood floor.
Claudia Allan
We don't recommend using our 3/4" Extreme Mats as an indoor doormat. These mats are semi-porous and would allow some water to flow through the mat and under. We do offer a number of indoor mats that can be used for this purpose on our entrance mats page.
Would this be good for a smith machine (350lbs) and weight plates (200lbs) on it?
Dan
Yes, a Smith Machine can be placed on our 3/4" Extreme Mats without damaging them.
Is it soft enough to do planks with elbows and ok for sit-ups? I’ve had surgeries that make those exercises difficult if it’s too hard. Thanks
Joe Marrazzo
Our Natural colored Extreme Mats are the perfect option for anyone doing floor exercises. Our Natural mats are designed to be less dense than the other colored mats, providing a more shock-absorbent surface and comfortable underfoot.
I’m looking for some mats to put under my kickboxing bags/weight room in my garage. I have puzzle mats down right now. I’ve had to use carpet tape underneath them, which was a mistake. It’s really difficult to replace damaged ones. Three questions. Do these mats stay together, or must they be taped? Do they come in custom larger sizes? Can I put them over the puzzle mats, or should I just scrape those off? Thanks! Please don’t sell my email.
Quinn S. LaMunyon
Our 3/4" Extreme Mats can be used under kickboxing bags without you needing to place double-sided tape under them. These rubber mats are very thick and heavy, so moving them will take a lot of force. Our mats only come in preset sizes that are 4' wide. If you want to create a larger space with these mats, you can order several mats and place them next to each other. You can install our Extreme Mats over any existing floor as long as the flooring is hard and flat. So it is up to you if you want to remove the existing flooring or place these over it.
Can you place the Extreme or Premium mat over an epoxy floor? How do you keep water from pooling under the mat? Is it antibacterial?
You can install our rubber mats over an epoxy floor. They will not harm the epoxy in any way and will actually help protect it. There is no way to keep water from pooling under the mats. Garages typically are slightly sloped to force water out of the garage or are sloped toward a drain. The only thing you can do to reduce any moisture under the mats is to lift the mats periodically to let all of the water evaporate. All of our rubber mats are naturally anti-microbial and mold/mildew resistant. The only time you will see issues is when there is anything organic under the mats or if there is already mold and mildew present.
I am looking for gym mats that do not have a chemical smell. I have barn mats that still smell after two years. I am fine with the cost but must know the mats do not smell.
Steve
If you are looking for rubber mats without a strong rubber smell, we recommend purchasing our 4' x 6' Premium Mats - Designer Mats.
We already put down your flooring for our gym over cement, and we love it. However, I need an area for cardio with more cushion for my joints. I wanted a mat I could just lay on top of the rubber flooring to cushion it more. Would this work?
Jen
Yes, you can place our 3/4" Extreme Mats over your rubber flooring for added shock absorption. The Natural color is our most shock absorbing, so when choosing a color, we recommend this if you are looking for more cushion.

I built a 4-layer sandwich: 3/4 Plywood, 3/4 EVA Foam (tatami mat), 3/4 Plywood, 3/4 Hard rubber mat. All this is so as to drop olympic barbell weights. Works Great! Used urethane mastic to glue layers together. Images sent in by happy customer

Self-installed in Home Gym in Apartment (aka Bedroom)

I am a P90X/Insanity user and unfortunately limited to doing certain exercises outside because I live in an apartment. I looked high and low for a decent exercise mat, something that would really keep noise and floor shaking to a minimum. Guess what? You will not find a quality mat at Sports Authority, Lowe's, Home Depot, or even on the Beach Body website. They are all thin and poorly made. You'd be better off jumping up and down on newspaper. Google led me to Rubber Flooring Inc. and after reading reviews I decided on the 3/4″ Extreme Mat. This is one hell of a mat. It was a workout just getting from work (where it was delivered) to home. This thing weighs nearly 100 pounds! But this is what is needed if you want to jump up and down and not make much noise. This is what is need if you want to be kind to your knees and joints. My only complaint is that it does flake a bit. More so at first and now (after a month) not too much. I vacuum the mat to keep it clean, so that's easy. If you are looking for something to roll up and move around, this mat is not it. 100 pounds! You can't roll it up and store it. This isn't a yoga mat. This is a mat for jumping or weight training. You can drop weights on this thing. I wouldn't recommend doing that as the weight will probably bounce up and land on your foot, but if you drop a weight on this mat, your floor won't know. Finally, the price on this is good (they had a free shipping deal when I ordered). You are getting a mat that is 1000 times better than what you'll find in most stores or elsewhere online and only paying twice as much... this just is a common sense purchase.

Self-installed in 2nd floor home gym

We bought the 3/4 inch extreme mat to cushion our treadmill, located on hardwood flooring in our upstairs home gym. The sound protection afforded by this mat is amazing. I run at least 4 miles daily at an 8 minute/mile pace and no one downstairs ever hears me - seems almost impossible but it's true. We have been more than satisfied. The rubber smell that other reviewers have mentioned has completely gone away after two weeks - not an ongoing issue at all. We also purchased 2 premium mats which we have placed under our weight rack and bench. They are also great.
