Cork Underlayment

  • Why cork underlayment?

Cork underlayment is a wonderful eco-friendly underlayment option that helps to add warmth underfoot as well as sound reduction properties. Popular for use in condos and commercial properties, cork is naturally mold and mildew resistant and allows air to flow freely through the floor system.

Do I REALLY need underlay?

  • Yes, most definitely.

Underlayment is an amazing invention created by the flooring gods out of necessity. Underlay has an impressive list of benefits, including: adding warmth to your floors so your feet aren’t so cold on new tile flooring, adding comfort and a slight ‘give’ underneath wood or vinyl floors, reduced sound transmission (great for houses with noisy teenagers!), as well as reducing in room step noise. The image to the left is a very simplified example of using underlayment versus not using it, but as you can see the benefits greatly outweigh any reason not to.

Making your house a home

  • Products that work together

Cork underlayment is popular for use underneath of ceramic and porcelain tile flooring, hardwood floors, vinyl floors, and laminate floating floors. Cork underlayments is really quite versatile and can be used underneath all floor types.

Thickness

  • What does it mean?

Underlayment with a thickness of up to 5mm thick are great when it comes to residential or commercial use, with all flooring types. When you get to more than 5mm thick, these are really great for installations where you need to add thickness to match up with an adjoining/existing floor surface.

Don't see what you're looking for?
does your cork or other floors require an adhesive or any additional products. I'm looking at the cork and the sound proofing (foil looking one)?
Jessica Lerda
In most installations the cork underlayment needs to be adhered with a urethane adhesive and a vapor barrier would need to be included. Our Sound Blocker Underlayment can be installed without the need for adhesive to the subfloor but you will need to remember to tape the seams with moisture resistant tape. Always follow installation instructions for any underlayment.
Our installation of 3mm cork is as a sound barrier above grade (3rd floor residential condo), conditioned space below, placed on top of 1" cured gypcrete below and 2 layers of 3/4" Advantech T&G subflooring above the cork with carpet or hardwood as a finish surface. I would not expect this application to require an adhesive or a moisture barrier - Correct?
Joe Sampson
You would not need a moisture barrier, but we do recommend that you glue the cork underlayment down.
Does the vapor barrier go between to flooring and the cork?
Anonymous
Yes, if you are going to put down a vapor barrier but it between your concrete and underlay.
Does the 3mm product have an IIC rating?
Matthew
This product has not been tested and does not have any ratings available.
Is this quarter-inch and how many sq ft in one roll?
Marvin Rosenfeld
This cork underlay would be equivalent to about a 1/8". The size of our 3mm Eco-Cork Underlayment rolls is 4' x 50', which covers around 200 square feet.
I have a concrete slab floor in a garage and would like to install NuHeat floors and porcelain or Luxury Vinyl floor. Can I use any underlayment product on top of the concrete then lay NuHeat NVent heated mats (with thinset) over the underlayment?
Jim
When installing your NuHeat NVent heated mats, you would install them over our 3mm Eco-Cork Underlayment. You would want to follow the instructions for installing the underlayment and installing your heated floor system.

Everything I needed and seemed to be better quality cork than some more expensive options. Bought separate underlayment for underneath. Cork is very good, easy to install, and provides all the qualities of an underlayment I was looking for. Shipping & delivery was super easy and convenient. Even rolled the pallet into my garage! Will definitely look at rubber flooring inc for other purchases!
