What are the dimensions of the border tiles? Approx width and length?
Anonymous
All of our Tight-Loc Tiles are 36" x 36" in size. (Note: Tiles do overlap 1” where they lock together)
What are corner tiles, border tiles and center tiles?
John
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles are just like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, so just like a puzzle, our tiles also come in corner, border and center pieces. Corner tiles are designed to be used in the corner of your floor, with 2 flat edges to go right up against your wall. Border tiles go along the border of the floor and have 1 flat edge for the side that touches the wall. Center tiles are used in the center of the floor, and have interlocking edges all the way around with no flat edges.
I'm thinking of using this product in my painting studio. Are the tiles leak proof? If I spill paint or solvent on this floor, could it seep though to the floor below?
Anonymous
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles are somewhat porous but would not allow paint or solvent to go through the floor. The tiles do interlock very tightly, but if there is some separation, there is potential for paint or solvent to penetrate to the subfloor below.
Can this be used in a garage and what impact will a vehicle have on it?
Nathan
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Rubber Tiles can be installed in a garage and a car would not destroy the tiles. There are two things that may happen with these tiles when installed in a garage. If your car is leaking oil, there is potential for the oil to break down the tiles over time. If that is the case, we would recommend placing one of our Nitro rolls where you park your vehicle. The second issue that might occur, is when you are driving into your garage, if you turn hard, you may cause the tiles to separate. The only way to prevent this is to glue the tiles.
Do you ship to Canada, if so are there added costs?
Jenny
We do ship our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles to Canada. To get a shipping rate for orders shipping to Canada, please contact our Flooring Heroes via chat, phone or email.
Does the floor come new with a strong rubber smell (off-gassing)?
Anonymous
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles do have a rubber smell, but it is very slight. If you are sensitive to smells, we recommend cleaning our rubber flooring with a mild soap and water solution and letting the flooring air dry. To really knock out the smell, you may have to do this a few times.
I don't have a dedicated workout area. I'm thinking of getting 4 corner pieces so I can set up a 6x6 workout area when needed (I do mostly kettlebells, so that's enough space), then disassemble and stack until needed again. Will the connection points hold up through repeated set up and disassembly?
Alan L Pasternack
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles are one of our most durable and most seamless rubber tiles, and the interlocks would be able to withstand the constant assembly and disassembly.
We want to install something like these tiles on a flat roof top that can get very windy. Is there any way to hold these tiles down, so they don't blow away?
judy
When installing our Tight-Lock Tiles, you can glue them down to keep them in place if you are really concerned about wind being an issue. You would use a polyurethane adhesive to keep them in place.
Can you install these tiles over a carpeted surface?
You can install our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles over a low pile, commercial carpet easily. Over carpet that is high pile with a thick pad, we recommend not installing them in this situation as the tiles may separate when the pad under the tiles depresses. This could cause a potential trip hazard. If you have a light-colored carpet and are worried that these tiles will leave a residue on the carpet, we would recommend placing a plastic sheet under the tiles. This will ensure the tiles will not stain your carpet.
Are the 3/8 tight lock tiles natural color very course?
Cliff t
The Natural color in our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles is not coarse. We call it natural as it has some random color flec in it that comes naturally in recycled rubber. All the colors in our Tight-Lock Tiles are fairly smooth to the touch.
When installing, does it matter which side of the tile faces down?
Anonymous
For our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles, it doesn't matter which side is facing up. You will just have to make sure that whatever side you do install the tiles that you stick with that side for your whole installation.
Will the 3/8" Tight-Lock work with the 3/8" Reactive Tiles? I already have the Tight-Locks and want to add more.
Anonymous
You can't interlock our Tight-Lock Tiles with our Reactive tiles. They are two different sizes and also have two different interlocking systems.
Is the floor ramp you sell "interlocking" or is it just butting up to the cut floor for the 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles?
Steve Bucher
Our Rubber Floor Ramps would only butt up to our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles. We do not currently offer any interlocking ramp pieces for our rubber tiled products.
I have some rounded corners and other irregular patterns with the walls in a room in our basement. Can these tiles be cut to shape with a carpet knife?
Robert Gallup
You can easily cut our Tight-Lock Tiles with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge.
Is this a good tile for cross-fit, jumping rope or plyometrics? I currently have 3/4" foam and it is far too soft, need to get some bounce back.
Daniel Anhold
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles work well as flooring for Cross Fit, jump rope, and plyometric exercises. These rubber tiles have very durable and are commercially rated. These tiles will give you the right amount of shock absorbance without being squishy like foam tiles.
What is the dimensions of the border tiles?
Darin
The tile size for all of our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles is 3' x 3'. Whether its a border, corner or center tile, the sizes are all the same.
Could these rubber tiles be cleaned using a steam mop?
You can use a steam mop to clean our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles or any of our rubber flooring products. The heat from the steam will not cause it to melt.
I have a tile floor. Would it cause any damage to my tiles if I put the rubber flooring over it? I’m turning my dining room into a home gym. If not what would you recommend?
Jennie
Our Tight-Lock Tiles will not cause any damage to your current tile flooring. These tiles will install over your current flooring easily and will protect your tile from dropped weights.
Can the 3/8" Tight-Lock tiles be used on aluminum boat decks?
mike
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles can be installed over any hard flat surface like concrete, asphalt, plywood, and the like. These rubber tiles can be installed over an aluminum boat deck. These tiles are great for areas that will have water on them as they are more slip-resistant when wet. Also, our rubber flooring and tiles are resistant to mold and mildew growth.
Do you sell the rubber fill-in strips for the tight-lock edges? All my current squares are center, and I'd like to fill in the edges.
Matt
We do not sell edging strips for our Tight-Lock Tiles to make them into corner or border tiles. If you have all center tiles, you can easily cut them with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge.
I ordered the Natural color in the 3/8 Tight-Lock. Is it going to be the same color throughout, or should I change my order to a different color flec? I’m putting this in a large room, so I’m hoping it’s all similar and not random like the description says. I just couldn’t find a picture up close.
Joey Giamportone
The Natual color in out 3/8" Tigh-Lock Tiles is not a consistent color. It is very random. These tiles are made from reground up rubber material that may have some random color flecs in them. So one tile could have a yellow flec, and one could have a red flec. If you would like to have a more consistent look to your floor, we recommend going with one of our standard lines of colors. These will have consistent color flecing throughout the floor.
What is the exact width of each tile, not including the interlocking teeth?
Dustin Lewis
The interlocked size of our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles is 35" x 35".
Does this product contain natural rubber latex? Where can I find the MSDS for this product?
Brett Prior
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles are made from the tread of commercial truck tires. Since the vulcanization process breaks down latex, typically, these materials will not cause a reaction. We can't guarantee that there isn't any natural rubber latex in our flooring, but most of the recycled rubber out there is made from SBR. This is a synthetic rubber material and does not contain latex. If you would like to see the MSDS for our rubber flooring, please feel free to reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, chat, or email, and they would be more than happy to send you a copy of it.
What's better for the joints as far as doing HIIT or plyometric workouts? 8mm or 3/8 thick rubber tiles? I also have a lot of equipment: dumbbell racks, treadmills, half-rack, exercise bike. I want to make sure that I have enough protection for my equipment and my joints.
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles can be used as flooring for doing high impact, HIIT, or plyometric workouts. If you are looking for a floor that will be easy on your joints and respond to the intensity of your workout, we would recommend going with one of our Impact Rubber floors. We have several tiles and rolls that would work perfectly for these types of high-intensity workouts.
What are the differences between the "Strong" and "Tight-Lock" tiles? Can you order a single tile to see what it's like, rather than a small, square sample? Thanks!
David
The main differences between our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles and our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are the thickness, the size of the tiles, and the way they interlock. There are also color option differences, but outside of that, they are made from the same material and are both great for both home and commercial gyms. A single tile can be ordered in both types.
Do you need any plastic or underlayment when installing over basement concrete to prevent mold? Floor not normally damp, just trace amount of moisture evaporation through the concrete.
Mike
You do not need to place a plastic sheet under our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles to prevent mold. Our rubber flooring is naturally mold and mildew resistant. If you do have moisture issues, there are a few things you may notice. One is 'sweating.' This is when moisture collects on the surface of your flooring. They occur because the moisture is condensing on the flooring surface. The second is that when the water evaporates under your tiles, you will see this white material under the tiles. This is not mold, but actually, salt from your concrete. It is not harmful at all and can be cleaned easily with a mild soap and water solution.
Will 3/8" protect the floor under the elliptical machine?
Jane Becker
An Elliptical or any other fitness equipment can be placed on top of our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles with ease. These rubber tiles will help to protect your subfloor or any other flooring from damage that could be caused by the machine.
What is the difference between the Tight-Lock and Sport-Lock tile products?
kevin
The difference between the 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles and the 3/8" Sport-Lock Tiles is the manner in which they are designed. So the Tight-Lock Tiles come made as either a corner, border, or center tile, whereas the Sport-Lock Tiles come with removable edge pieces that allow you to turn them into a corner, border, or center. So if you are looking for a more consistent look to your floor, the Sport-Lock Tiles will give you that easier. If you are looking for a more seamless floor, then the Tight-Lock Tiles will give you that. Other than that, they perform the same.
Are there straight edge tile to lay flush against the wall? What is the method to measure the room in order to know how many tiles to order?
Our Tight-Lock Tiles come as corner, border, or center tiles, so yes, you can order tiles that are straight edge cut to fit along walls. When measuring your room, you will want to just take a tape measurer and measure along the walls to get the dimensions of your room. Once you have that, on the product page, we offer a calculator where you can enter the size of the space you are filling, and it will let you know how many tiles it will take to fill the room.
Can these tiles be used outdoors for a backyard playground?
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles can be used outdoors. Since these interlocking tiles are made from rubber, they are very slip resistant and are more slip-resistant when wet. Being made from rubber, these tiles are mold and mildew resistant and are very easy to clean. The only thing you will notice is that when these tiles are used outdoors they can fade a bit in direct sunlight. Thes tiles could be used as flooring in a backyard playground. If you don't have any large playground equipment that is tall, these tiles would work. If you do have equipment that is a little larger, we would suggest going with one of our rubber playground tiles. These tiles have fall height ratings and will ensure that your child will not sustain serious injury while at play.
I am looking for a portable workout space to be able to jump rope without tearing up my rope or the rope getting stuck in the mat. I also need an area wide enough to have a standard female length bar.
kim
You can jump rope on our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles without the rope getting damaged, or the rope getting stuck. With these interlocking rubber tiles, you are able to create any custom size that you like.
I have wood floors and am looking for some flooring to set my vibration plate on. Will this flooring rub or cause wood floors any damage?
Debbi Lannon-Smith
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles will not rub or cause any damage to your wood floors.
Does the interlocking tiles come in 1/2" also?
Timothy R Baker
Our Tight-Lock Tiles are available in 3/8" and 1/2" thicknesses. You can find our 1/2" thickness by typing 1/2" Tight-Lock Tiles in our search bar.
I have a concrete flooring in my basement and I am thinking about getting the 3/8" tiles, would I be able to deadlift on them without it damaging the floor underneath the tiles?
Connor
You can deadlift on our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles without damaging the subfloor underneath the tiles.
Are these tiles reversible?
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles are not reversible.
Installing tight lock rubber tiles on a concrete basement floor. The basement is dry; do I need a moisture barrier?
David Forbes
You don't have to use a moisture barrier under our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles. These rubber tiles are very durable and will not be affected by moisture issues in a basement. If your basement were to flood, all you would need to do is remove the flooring, clean it, and let it air dry. You then would be able to reinstall your flooring.
Can tiles be cut to fit room with utility knife?
David Forbes
Yes, you can cut these tiles using a utility knife & a straight edge / t-square.
What is use to clean the mat?
Annette C.
Our 3/8" Tight-Lock Tiles™ can be cleaned using dish soap or laundry detergent. Please do not use any solvent-based cleaner.
