Ask a Question
We need to abut your 1/2" mega roll product into a 1" thick floor. Do you supply a transition strip/trim piece that can be added on top of the 1/2" product to bevel up to the higher floor? I am an architect - how do we specify the trim piece?
Anonymous
We do not have vinyl or rubber transitions that would work for your installation, but there are solutions to your issue. One could be placing a rubber underlay underneath your rubber flooring to get it to the same height as your tile. Another solution would be to get an unfinished reducer and stain or paint it to a color that is similar to either the rubber or the tile. You could also use shims at the point where the two floors meet to get them to the same level and then either use a transition piece or leave the joint as is. The transition piece you would need there would be a T-mold.
Could the 1/2" or 3/8" be used in a garage to park cars on and can it take chemicals (oil)?
Peter
You can park a car on our 1/2" and 3/8" rubber rolls, but if your car leaks oil, the roll will start to break down over time. Most other vehicle chemicals will not affect the flooring in this manner.
I want to install these in my daughters indoor play area but was wondering if these mats pose any sort of health hazard. Is it safe to have my daughter in close proximity of these mats for several hours a day given the chemicals they contain?
Anonymous
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls are very safe and can be installed in your daughter's play area. The rubber flooring is cleaned thoroughly to ensure that any dirt, debris, and chemicals are properly removed before making our rubber flooring. If you would like product testing for our Mega Rubber Rolls, please feel free to contact one of our flooring heroes and they would be more than happy to present you any documentation you needed.
Hi, can those Rubber Rolls be used outdoors?
evera
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls can be used outdoors. Some fading may occur in direct sunlight, but the floor itself will stand up to the elements.
I need to know how large in diameter the 1/2" rolled rubber 50' lengths are?
John Fertig
The rolled diameter of a 50' 1/2" roll is 20".
Can your 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls be greater than 48" wide? I need 54" x 18'.
Michael
Currently, our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls only come in a 4' wide roll.
Is the 1/2 mega roll firm enough to use over fairly soft carpet for a treadmill? I bought a mat from local fitness store, think it was 1/4 or 3/8. It bends quite a bit when I walk on it on my carpet, and I'm not that heavy. Have about 400 lb commercial treadmill on it and its barely better then just being on the carpet alone.
Corey Quinn
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls perform best over commercial grade low pile carpet. Since your wanting to use this roll as a mat, the weight of the treadmill should keep the roll solid underneath the treadmill. There may be some bending due to the carpet being a high pile carpet, but there shouldn't be much. This roll should perform better than the thinner mats you have been using. Other products that you could consider that perform better over high pile carpets are our 1" Monster Tiles and our 1" Sports Play Tiles.
Is there a reducer to use around the perimeter?
Brian
We do not currently have a Rubber Ramp that will fit our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls. You can use one of our standard flooring reducers to create a transition between floors. You can find all of our trims and moldings on our Trims and Moldings page.
We have 3 mirrored columns in our PD gym. The mirrors are constantly being broken from people banging weights into the mirrors; I would like to cut the mats into 2'X2' sections and glue them to the mirrors on the lower portion to prevent breaking of the mirrors. Will these mats adhere to mirrors?
matt
If you prepare the surface properly, our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls can be glued to any surface. You will want to use a polyurethane adhesive.
Are these odor free?
Anonymous
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls are not odor free. There will be a rubber smell that will dissipate over time. If the smell is too much, we recommend mopping the floor with mild soap and water solution and letting the floor air dry. If you are looking for rubber that does not have a strong odor, we recommend purchasing one of our Virgin Rubber Tiles.
Has anyone used this under an outdoor playground area (swings, slides, etc.)
K
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls have been used in outdoor playground areas. The flooring is very durable and is more shock absorbing than concrete or asphalt. You will not get any fall height ratings from this floor, but it works perfect in general play areas.
I have read thru the specs several times and I do not see the width of this product mentioned anywhere just that the length needs to be at least 15'. What is the width of this roll?
Anonymous
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls and all of our rubber rolls are 4' wide.
Can you install your 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls Outdoors? I plan to install the rolls over existing stairs between the house and the lake?
Berniestair
You can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls outdoors. These rolls are made from the same material as your tires. With that being said, just like your tires, they will fade a bit in direct sunlight. All our rubber flooring is mold and mildew resistant and very easy to clean and maintain. Another added benefit is that rubber is more slip resistant when wet.
My gym is in my garage and in the winter it gets down to mid 30’s and in the summer it gets up around 100 degrees. Will the rolled half inch flooring expand and shrink with weather changes to where the seams come apart?
Mark
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls and all of our rubber flooring will expand and contract in extreme temperature variations. To help prevent this, we recommend gluing the flooring down. If you don't glue the flooring, we recommend cutting an expansion gap from 1/2" to a 1" around the perimeter of the floor to properly expand and contract. Typically the flooring will expand around the perimeter, not as much at the seams, but it can.
Is this flooring suitable for plyometric workouts?
Anonymous
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls would be suitable for plyometric workouts.
I am working on installing some 1/2 inch rubber flooring in a HS weight room. Can I paint their logo on the flooring? And if I can, should I use acrylic or other paint? Do you offer logo services?
Tatum
If the space doesn't get a lot of traffic, using an acrylic paint will work just fine. If there will be a little more traffic, we recommend using an exterior paint. We do offer logo services, and if you reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes, they will be more than happy to assist you with pricing.
I would like to install your ½" rolled rubber floor over a concrete slab. Is there anything I should know? Thanks.
Mikey G.
You can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls over a concrete slab or any other flat, solid surface like asphalt or wood decking. There are no real got you moments that come with installing rubber over concrete. One thing you will want to be aware of is if your concrete floor is allowing water to flow through it. If so, you may want to seal the floor before you install the rubber. The moisture won't hurt the flooring, but your flooring may end up sweating. Rubber is more slip resistant when wet, so this is not a huge issue, but more of a surprise when people see the flooring start to do this.
We want to use your 1/2" Mega Rubber rolls for a kids "wet" area with sprinklers and using a ground level deck to allow for drainage. What is the best installation method over wood decking? Would you recommend anything between the wood (treated) and rubber flooring? Lastly, any issues with a midwest climate?
rj
Our Mega Rubber Rolls would work perfectly as flooring for a wet area where kids will be playing and running through sprinklers. Rubber is very slip resistant and when wet, is even more slip resistant. These rolls would be very easy to install over a wood deck to allow for drainage. You would be able to install the rolls without any glue or tape, but if there were some movement, you could use double sided tape or our polyurethane adhesive. Since all of our rubber rolls are made from recycled tires, they are durable enough to handle any weather so that these rolls will perform just fine in the coldest of winters to the hottest of summers. Another great aspect of rubber flooring is that its mold and mildew resistant and is very easy to clean and maintain. The only thing you will notice with having our rubber rolls outdoors is that there will be some fading over time with the rolls.
Does the mega rubber roll flooring absorb water or is it impermeable? I want to use it outside to cover an area where rain will fall on the surface.
Chester King
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls will not allow water to flow through the flooring. These rolls are semi-permeable, and all liquids will pool on the flooring surface. There are some pores in the floor, so liquid can get in these pores, but the pores do not go through the floor, so when any liquid drys, any solids that were in the liquid can get caught in the floor. This will show as a whitening of the floor. There is no easy way to get rid of these solids, so we recommend using our floor finish and sealer to keep your rubber looking like new longer.
I'm looking to put this in my basement for a home gym. I need the mats to withstand 600lbs being dropped on them from performing deadlifts and squatting over 400lbs. need something durable.
Chris
You can deadlift, squat, and drop heavy weight on our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls. These rolls are commonly used in CrossFit gyms and areas where heavy Olympic lifting happens. You will not destroy these floors doing any Olympic lifts.
Looking to use it in a dog training space. Can it be easily cleaned of dog urine?
Michael Lee
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls are very easy to clean and have been used for dog training and doggy daycares with great success. Our rubber rolls are somewhat porous, so any urine that gets on the floor will sit on top of the floor. If allowed to dry, the salts in the urine will get in the floor and will be impossible to get out. Our rubber rolls are very easy to clean, maintain, and sanitize, but to make it easier to clean up urine and other pet messes, we recommend using our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer.
Does the 1/2 rubber roll flooring have a fire rating? The fire marshal at our facility is asking that question.
Tabor
OUr 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls have a Class 3 fire rating.
I will need to transition the 1/2 rolled rubber flooring at a door way to carpet. What is the best way to do this so it looks like a smooth transition?
Jason
For our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls we offer a 1/2" floor ramp that can be used to bevel your floor at a doorway. This will create the cleanest transition between floors.
What temperatures does your product withstand?
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls are freeze/thaw stable, and they can withstand frigid cold and sweltering hot temperatures. The temperatures that these products are tested under are temperatures that naturally do not occur in nature.
Can rubber rolls be used as a vapor barrier? My crawl space has a dirt floor. If I lay rolls over the dirt, will this stop moisture from coming through? Can the seams be sealed?
Rodgers
You can use our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls as a vapor barrier if you seal them. You would use our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer on the floor and then use our Seam Sealer glue at the seams. Once you have done this, then yes you can use our rubber rolls as a vapor barrier. For a product that would work better than our rubber rolls, we suggest using our Nitro Rolls as a vapor barrier. These rolls are non-porous.
Can the 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls be cut easily to accommodate more narrow walkways?
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls can be cut with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge pretty easily. Since it is pretty thick, you may have to score the floor a few times before getting all the way through, but it can be easily done.
I’m building a house and will have a home gym on the second floor. I’ll have a few machines like a treadmill and elliptical etc... and weights. Being on the second floor, do I simply lay the rubber rolls over the wood sub Flooring? Ant what thickness do you recommend?
Gus
You can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls right over the wood subflooring on the second floor. This is our thickest rubber roll and will provide you with tons of shock and sound absorption. If you still have more noise coming from the second floor than you like, we recommend adding a few rubber mats under your equipment and where you will drop weights to help deaden any noise or vibration more. You won't be able to completely get rid of any noise transmittance completely, but you will definitely reduce it while also protecting your subfloor.
We need to know if the material should be sealed and if so with what recommended product. Also need to know how to clean the floor and any cleaning products to use and/or not use.
Charlene Ross
You don't have to seal our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls. If you did want to seal the flooring, you can with our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer. To clean our rubber flooring, all you would need to do is sweep any large dirt and debris and then damp mop the flooring with a mild soap and water solution or our Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser. You will want to mop the flooring with a synthetic mop.
What is minimum order for 1/2" mega roll with gray fleck?
Paul
Our minimum cut length right now for our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls is 15' long. The width is standard at 4'.
I am building an outdoor model railroad (G Scale) here in Arizona and was thinking about cutting your roll into 1 3/4" strips lengthwise to use under the track and gluing the track to it. How would you recommend I cut a 50' long strip? Will it cause a problem when it gets to about 120 in direct sunlight. What would you recommend I use to attach the plastic ties to the strip? What other problems you can think of?
WALTER GAZDZIK
You can cut our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls easily with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. The rubber will handle the heat just fine, just like your car tires. The melting point for rubber is well over 200 degrees Fahrenheit. To attach the plastic pieces to the rubber flooring, we recommend using our Polyurethane adhesive. This gives you the strongest hold and will also stand up to the elements.
Can these floors be used over concrete with in-floor heat? And if not, do you offer flooring that would be better used for this?
You can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls over a concrete floor with in-floor heating. The rubber flooring will not melt. The only thing you will notice is that you won't get the full effect of the floor heating system. These systems were made for porous materials like stone and tile. Rubber is a decent insulator, so you will only get some effects of the floor heating system.
I am looking for a floor for my dogs room that is easy to clean and not going to be punctured by their nails. Would this work? They need some padding as they are getting old.
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls would work well as flooring for pets. This rubber flooring is very easy to clean and can be sealed with our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer to create a floor that is easy to sanitize. Our rubber flooring will provide comfort underfoot for your pets and will help keep them active as they get older. Their nails would not destroy our rubber flooring. If you seal the flooring, you may have to reseal it more often than twice a year, but other than that, this floor will be very easy to clean and maintain.
What is the STC and IIC rating for your Mega Rubber rolls?
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls do have some sound absorbing properties but they are not tested specifically for IIC and STC ratings. If you are looking for a product that would provide you with optimal readings in both IIC and STC, we recommend purchasing one of our Rubber Underlayments.
I want to install the 1/2" on my covered deck; it still gets a little rain and snow blow in on it. Will this work for me?
Jerry D Lacey
You can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls on a covered deck that gets rain and snow. Our rubber flooring is very durable and can withstand the elements. Our rubber flooring is very easy to clean and maintain and is mold and mildew resistant. These rubber rolls are also slip-resistant and are more slip resistant when wet. The only thing you may notice over time is that the rubber may fade a bit in direct sunlight.
I am planning on installing the ½ inch rubber rolls in a 12 x 18 home gym. The gym will be in the basement, and the rubber is being installed on concrete. I notice one q&A indicated the rubber performs best over carpet? Should I install carpet first? Carpet padding? Or smoother underlayment? Please advise.
Tammy
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls can be installed over any type of flat hard surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, plywood, and the like. Our rubber rolls truly perform the best when installed over concrete as this is a hard flat surface that is very easy to install over. You can install our rubber rolls over commercial grade carpet, and it will perform just as well over any other hard flat surface. The only surface that can be a little tricky to install over is plush residential carpet with a thick pad. Here you would just have to be mindful that the flooring may separate and could cause a tripping hazard. But to iterate here, carpet it not needed under our rubber flooring, just a hard flat surface.
Is this product resistant to UV? I am looking for a rubber flooring for use outside that will be subjected to sun and rain. If not, do you have something else?
Derek Koski
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls are not UV stable and would eventually fade in direct sunlight over time. These rubber rolls are made from recycled truck tires, so they will be able to handle the elements as well as your tires would. These rubber rolls are mold and mildew resistant and are very easy to clean and maintain.
I am planning on making a home gym in our basement. Is it ok to put right on the concrete? I am afraid of water leaking and getting between the concrete floor and rubber floor. And can I drill holes in the flooring to match with the drain?
Megan
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls can be installed in a basement over concrete. Our rubber flooring is water-resistant and will not be affected if water to get in between the flooring and the concrete subfloor. We recommend in basements to loose lay our rubber flooring, so if there is a flooding event, you can easily remove the rolls and properly clean them. You can easily cut our rubber flooring to add areas for drainage with a sharp utility knife.
Do you have a product that does not contain any toxic chemicals or phthalates? Low or no odor?
Jake
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls do not contain any toxic chemicals or phthalates. These rolls are low odor but do have a rubber smell to them. We recommend if you are sensitive to smells to mop the floor with a mild soap and water solution and to let the flooring air dry in a well-ventilated space. You may have to do this a few times to get the smell to dissipate fully. If you would like to get the MSDS for our rubber flooring, please feel free to reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via chat, email, or phone, and they will be more than happy to provide you with it.
What sort of cleaning methods are recommended?
For large dirt and debris, we recommend either sweeping the floor or using a brushless vacuum to remove it from our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls properly. To clean stuck-on dirt and debris, we recommend mopping the floor with a mild soap and water solution with a synthetic mop head mop. You would then let the floor air dry.
Can I order a custom roll length in a fraction of a foot? The order form only gives an option of whole feet, but my space is 16' 10" - can you cut to that specification?
Bethany
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls and all of our custom cut rubber flooring can only be cut in whole foot increments. When you order our custom cut rubber flooring, you will get a little extra on each roll to account for inherent shrinking and to ensure you are able to floor your whole room wall to wall as no room is perfectly square.
Would this type of floor work for a basketball gym? This is a church gymnasium, so it will be used as a multipurpose room. Basketball is the primary sport played.
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls and rubber flooring, in general, is typically not the best floor for basketball as there is a certain amount of slip that you want to have while playing basketball. We do offer a wide range of floors that are great as basketball court flooring on our court flooring page. Not only would these floors be great for basketball, but they are the perfect multipurpose floor. To add cushion, bounce, and shock absorbency to these floors, we recommend using one of our underlayment options.
Would this work for horse stalls?
charlene
You can use our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls as flooring in horse stalls. These rolls are made from the same material as standard horse stall mats, just in a roll form.
Will the Mega Rubber Roll lay flat without glue?
Mike Lucente
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls will lay flat without glue. Since these are rolled up when you receive them, you will need to unroll the rubber rolls and let them acclimate for about 24-48 hours. After this period the rubber will be flat and ready to install.
What is the R-value of the 1/2 inch mega roll rubber mat?
richard
The R-value for our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls and all of our rubber is approximately 1.100.
Could this be used as an outdoor sports court over compacted dirt? Will balls bounce on it if it's not on concrete?
KG
Technically our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls could be used as court flooring, but we don't recommend it. Rubber flooring has a very high coefficient of friction, and due to this, one could get injured when performing certain moves while playing basketball or any other sport. We do offer a wide range of court floors that would be great to use. With these hard plastic courts, you can place a rubber underlay under them to help add more bounce and cushion to your floor. This will help to give you more shock absorbency when jumping up and down on the court.
Will this flooring tolerate office chairs w/wheels being run over it consistently? And, will it stand up to Denatured alcohol (shellac thinner) and acetone? If not, which product should I be looking at?
Mike
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls have been used as flooring in offices all over the US and can handle constant use of rolling chairs on it. Our rubber flooring is pretty resistant to several chemicals and can handle denatured alcohol, and acetone on it.
How much does a single roll weigh? 4'x15’ length, 1/2 inch thick?
A 15-foot roll of our 1/2" Mega Rubber Roll weighs approximately 180 pounds.
Would tile hold up if I placed your 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls on top of it. I would have a bench press but no more than 130 pounds.
Hector Cabrera
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls can be installed over tile and will help to protect your tile flooring from the dropping of heavy weights.
We are wanting to install this in a salon, would this be a good option. There is a risk of spilling permanent hair dye and hair bleach on the floor. Would these ruin the rubber?
You can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls in a salon. Bleach and other chemicals will not harm the floor in any way. Rubber flooring is very slip-resistant, even when wet, and is very easy to clean and maintain.
I would like to build a temporary home gym in a room in my basement and use rubber rolls for flooring. I hope to do Olympic style lifting so I would intend to use 1/2" thick roll. I currently have laminate flooring installed and wish to keep it underneath the rubber flooring as I will convert it back to a bedroom in 5-7 years. Would it be okay to install rubber roll over the laminate? Do you have any recommendations or feedback from previous customers. Thanks
Bennett
You can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls over a laminate or wood floor. These rubber rolls will not affect the laminate in any way. If you are concerned about any staining or marks being left behind, you can always place a plastic sheet under the tiles to further protect your laminate or wood flooring.
Is the top of this flooring smooth? We are using for a home gym, but my daughter will also practice her ballet on it, so she needs to be able to spin.
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls are smooth on the top and bottom of the rolls. Our rubber flooring is not the proper floor for practicing ballet. For ballet, you will need a certain amount of slip, and rubber flooring is known as one of the best non-slip floors on the market. If you wanted a great multiuse floor that is great for working out on and for ballet, we recommend purchasing our Impact Rolls - Wood Series. This floor combines the properties of a rubber floor with a vinyl top that will allow for the proper amount of slip needed for practicing ballet.
How do you link two pieces of rubber flooring together?
Tina Poncin
There are a few ways to piece two of our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls together. The first would be to use our double-sided carpet tape under the rolls down the seam. This will help to keep the seam tight and prevent the rolls from moving. The next method would be to use our Seam Sealer glue on the seam. This will also keep the seam tight and prevent the rolls from separating.
I'm creating a home gym in my finished basement where I've installed vinyl flooring and looking to use the 1/2" rolled rubber for the area. Does the rolled rubber react &/or stain the vinyl flooring? If so, then do you recommend any specific barrier to protect from damage?
ou can install our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls over a luxury vinyl floor. The reason that you can install it over a luxury vinyl floor, waterproof, or rigid core floor is due to these products having a wear layer that protects the actual vinyl. If you were to install this over a standard vinyl floor, we would recommend placing a plastic sheet between the vinyl and rubber. This will help to prevent any reaction from happening between the rubber and vinyl.
Hey, I’m looking to build a home gym, and our flooring is all hardwood. Would these be suitable for the occasional (accidental) dropping of 400+ lbs without damaging the hardwood? Or would you recommend doubling up the rubber flooring?
Nicholas
Our 1/2" Mega Rubber Rolls are great for dropping heavy weights. This thickness is commonly found in Cross Fit and Olympic lifting gyms. Our rubber flooring will not damage your hardwood flooring, and you wouldn't have to double up the rubber flooring to keep the hardwood underneath protected.
