6mm Energy Rubber Tiles Reviews

I don't write reviews for products very often - if I do, it's because I was either very impressed or very disappointed with a product. In this case, I am extremely impressed with the 6mm Energy Rubber Tiles. The dimensions of the room I did are approximately 13' x 11'. I finished off a room in my basement for a home gym and installed them right on the concrete floor. I ordered 45 tiles (5 boxes of 9) and had 4 full tiles left over. I was very happy with the color fleck in the tiles (violet) which in my opinion appears more of a light grey than violet. I have grey walls, so the tiles matched the room very well. Install was a breeze, the fitment of the tiles are so precise that it's difficult to even see where the seams are. I needed to cut the final row to fit, which was just as easy. Took me about 1.5 hours. All that is needed is a sharp blade and straight edge, and the tiles cut straight in seconds. Very low rubber odor, almost non-existent. These tiles are plenty thick for home gym use. I can't say enough good things about these tiles, it looks like a pro installed them. If you're on the fence about getting them, you won't be disappointed!

The only problem I had with the product was that nobody or nothing stated to look at the arrows on the back of each tile. Things were not fitting just right and when I called and spoke to Kim Goldtooth she mentioned that the arrows should all point in the same direction. Might be nice to say something on the packaging about that.

I did a lot of research before ordering the 6mm rubber tile floors for my home gym. You can’t beat the prices offered here and to keep within my budget I opted to go for the 6mm instead of the 8mm. You will definitely need a good cushioned mat to do certain excerises since the floor is hard. I went with the grey color which is essentially white color flecks. The website and samples process could use some improvement. There was not a sample of the 6mm gray and so I ordered the lavender, the olive, and an 8mm gray hoping it would be the same appearnce as which the 6mm would be. The company should have samples of all products and also better pictures and description of the colors. In the pictures the fleck percentage appears different between the gray and other colors and the pictures are so zoomed in it’s hard to pictures what the flooring looks like at a distance. Despite this hang up once I decided to order the product came quickly and I received alerts about shipping. The product took me a few hours to install in an approximately 10 x 14 room. The 6mm does not have straight edge pieces so you do have to cut those which is very easy with a good utility knife and a straight edge. I relived carpet and laid the rubber floor on cement. It tucked nicely under my baseboards. The floor does not separate during my workouts (interval training mostly). Be careful when vacuuming though. I had my vacuum on low pile and the corner of one of the tiles did pull up but fortunately the suction wasn’t strong enough to rip the tile. I’ve reveived compliments on the appearance of the flooring and you can barely see the seams.

Two seniors 66yr (husband & wife) cleaned out the basement to build a home gym. We installed 330 sq. ft. (90 tiles) of 6mm rubber flooring and 12 ft. of floor ramp in a couple of days. Installation was very smooth and cutting the rubber tiles with a sharp knife was easy. I used a saw to cut the ramps to fit the outer edges. I attached some before and after photos. We love our new floor.

I ordered the black with blue 6mm tiles for my 13’x10’ home gym. We were replacing foam tiles that the previous owner’s of our home installed, that did not hold up well. As a former owner of 4 fitness studios I knew rubber would hold up far better than foam but I wasn’t sure if 6mm would be enough. After installing and using the gym I can say this is ample thickness for a home gym, even with a heavy treadmill on it. I pulled a very thick rubber mat out from under the treadmill because the 6mm is plenty. The install was easy as long as you have a solid straight edge and a heavy duty cutting knife with plenty of blades. This is in our basement so before installing i treated the foundation floor with a radon and moisture seal, which was harder than the flooring install. The floor install took me about 2 hours but only because I had to make a tight cuts around 2 door openings and molding. If it was a straight lines it would have maybe taken half that time. I only have 2 spare times which was the 10% extra they calculated. Very happy with the product and it looks nice too!

Tackled this project not knowing how to start. After watching videos of different ways to achieve success I decided to start against the wall with straight edge. Worked out flawlessly. Super excited with the outcome. Was skeptical on 6mm thickness but it is great. Definitely would recommend. Thank You RubberFlooringInc.

In the process of converting the former master bedroom into a home gym. These tiles were relatively inexpensive and easy to work with. The traditional method of using a box-cutter though was time-consuming and potentially dangerous. Instead I opted to use sheet-metal shears which worked great and allowed for much greater precision in cutting. Total area was ~300sqft. (abnormal shaped room) Installation was relatively straight forward on a solid-wood floor. No under-layment was used. The interlocking fitment is pretty solid, but not perfect. It is still possible to see gaps, but this is as close as you can get. The only major downfall of these tiles is the way they react to heavy items rolling over them. They tend to dislodge and fold. This probably could have been solved by adding some adhesive on the floor however we are trying to preserve the floor for resale value.

I doubt this will make it to published, however I will post on forums as well so those that research can make an informed decision. That being said I am very frustrated and disappointed in this flooring. If you don't want to read this, take one piece of advice; Suck it up and spend the extra money now for bigger (3x3 as opposed to 2x2) tiles, thicker, and/or rolled flooring if you want a floor to actually use. This is 5 star flooring if you have a dedicated home gym that you want to fill with equipment and show off to your friends. It looks really good and even though a few cuts seem off from box to box it appears seamless to everyone except you, the installer. If you want a floor to hold up to rigorous or heavy workouts don't bother installing this. I have pulled mine up and working out on horse stall mats until I can get new flooring. I installed this in December in a garage with a slightly rough concrete floor (minimal texture, no holes or raised spots. I cleaned it twice and sealed it with two coats of sealer. The floor was nit slick and when standing on a single tile it seemed immovable as far as sliding around. The area would be around 100 tiles, however, I only installed about 65 I believe. I ran into problems with a couple tiles not quite fitting when I opened a new box. I tried to make them fit but 2-3 rows later it was bubbling. I pulled all but the first row and started again using tiles from that box randomly in no specific order and had no more issues. I was happy with the result and let it sit 2 days to settle and adjust fully to room temperature to ensure no buckling. When I went to move my equipment on I realized this was going to be a problem. I have a treadmill with 1 1/2″ wheels, a stepper with 2″ wheels, and two plate trees commercial with 4″ rollers. Nothing will roll on this flooring without it bunching up in front of the wheels and pulling tiles out. I had some help and lifted these items into place. The plate trees are worthless as far as rolling around but don't have a fix for it that works. I have a power rack and bench, the bench weighing 110 lbs. It has wheels but again will not roll without ripping tiles up and obviously wont slide. so I was stuck with lifting the bench every time I wanted to move it. Like getting an extra workout in I suppose. More problems with lifts. Doing reverse db lunges was a no go. Just the pushing down and back motion in regular tennis shoes worked the tile loose and left me trying to stretch out all the tiles in the row to fix the gap. Deadlifts and oly lifts you have to be more focused on babying the floor then the lift or youre going to gap tiles or rip them up. I do not want to glue the entire floor down and although using light adhesive on the border held that, the center tiles still gap and come loose. I put a rubber lifting mat under the power rack and a mat under the deadlift station which solved the problem, and left me wondering why I had the rubber tiles under it. The tiles are just too flimsy and the seams not sturdy enough to take any weight other then straight up and straight down. I wanted this to work for the price and the looks but after spending more time fixing tiles then working out I decided it was time to pull it. I financed this purchase and after my last payment next month I will be getting real gym floor tiles and not base it on price. I think if these were 3x3, or had tighter / sturdier seams, or were just thicker, then they would probably work. These are budget tiles and although the price is attractive this is one situation in which you definitely get what you pay for.

Great product overall. My only complaint is the rubber flooring comes unattached from the other pieces when I move any piece of heavy gym equipment with wheels. I selected the 1/8 rubber floor if I could do it all over I would have selected a thicker flooring.

Love the product! It turned out amazing!

We put this (6mm Energy Rubber Tiles) on half of our basement. The other half is foam tiles for the kids to bounce, etc. If we had done these rubber tiles, first, I may have done the whole basement in these and just had a small area of foam tiles over them (though the foam tiles have also worked well, though get beat up more so won't last as long). These are great. You can't see the lines unless you know they are there and really look. And that is in the Winter. I learned a lesson with laying various types of flooring. We are in Ohio and it is better to lay in the Summer. Then when flooring slightly shrinks in the winter (dry), it isn't a problem and isn't noticeable. If you lay in the winter, when things expand, if you didn't leave enough space (thinking of strange angles areas as well), the slight expansion can bubble. We have had no problems at all with these rubber tiles. We laid them almost a year ago, and they look brand new. With how they are made, I figure they will last forever. I even (purposely) put a nail through one on two corners to hang it up as a backstop in our basement. When I pull the nails out (after hanging for several months in two small areas) you can't even tell the nails were there. They seal right over. They aren't as thick as some other rubber squares that are sold, but for out purpose they are perfect (and save not only on the product, but on shipping as well). One thing to consider, if you will be rolling heavy items on they, they will bend up under the wheels. It won't damage the tile, but you would need to put them back in place. This likely wouldn't be a problem with the thicker tiles, but I am not sure. I would buy again, and likely will in a few years when my young kids don't need the padded foam floor (and the foam has been adequately destroyed by all of their adventures), to replace it with these rubber tiles. One installation note (MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE ARROWS ON THE BOTTOM, WHICH YOU WON'T NOTICE UNLESS YOU LOOK ARE ALL FACING THE SAME DIRECTION). Otherwise, the squares will not lock nicely together. Another Note: We have the ″violet″ color. It looks white unless you have white right next to it, so don't worry if you don't want ″violet″ (I did order samples first to check the colors.) Another note: These are next to impossible to cut with a knife. However, a really good pair of scissors (that I use for cutting anything from paper to small branches, and even thin metal) cut right threw them and was definitely the way to go. It cut well and precise (right around the basement support pole, etc.)

Our basement flooded last winter with the heavy rain fall. Just a year ago we had some new carpet installed, but after the flooding we had to tear it out and throw it away. I thought long and hard about what to replace the carpeting with, not wanting to repeat the previous costly disaster and came up with the idea of rubber tiles. It became obvious rather quickly that Rubber Flooring, Inc had a big selection and offered the best prices. I called them and they gave me expert advice on which kind of tiles to use. They shipped out within about a week. With the help of two of my friends we put down the 220 square feet area in about 6 hours. None of us had ever done this before, but with some utility knives (lots of extra blades) and a couple of T squares we managed quite well. We had to cut a lot of tiles since the floor consists of multiple configurations and is by no means a square or rectangular room. Our basement has a pretty rough floor, but the tiles feel solid and flat under our feet and they look really NICE! Since these tiles are recycled from actual car tires we are no longer afraid of flooding even if we have to take up the tiles. They can be easily put back if for any reason they need to be removed. What a great solution to a messy problem! Rubber Tiles customer service is absolutely tops!

Super impressed with the cost and ease of installation for these tiles. No issues with any of the puzzle pieces fitting together, and all together they look fabulous. Also, definitely go with the manufacturer recommended % overage on sq ft - our basement walls weren’t straight so we needed some extra cuts to fit, and still have a couple left over for replacements in the event of damage. Highly recommend!

I started building my basement gym before the pandemic. I slowly added to it and what really completed it were the mats. The ability to add the mat in sections, was the game changer! The mats allow me to work out in one room while my husband watches movies in his viewing room without being disturbed. Game changer!!!

I had many cuts to make to fit my space so my installation was a little slow going but it wasn’t at all difficult. Super pleased with the end results!
